Supervision of Sex Offenders
Sex offenders are a unique offender population. In order to provide competent supervision of a sex offender, probation and parole officials need to be educated about the unique features of this population
In the first part of this workshop, the presenters will introduce the scientific conceptualizations of sex crimes. The relationship between sexuality, deviant sexuality and mental illness will be discussed.
In the second part of the workshop, the presenters will demonstrate how the scientific conceptualizations of sex crimes are used to predict sex offender recidivism. The audience will learn the static and dynamic risk factors which are reviewed in the assessment of an individual's risk to reoffend.
In conclusion, the presenters will propose a methodology to utilize scientific evidence and risk assessment to make decisions regarding pre-release planning and supervision of sex offenders.
