Sex Offender Risk Assessment: Who Will Re-Offend?
Several studies demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment programs that are empirically based, offense-specific, and comprehensive. Meta-analyses of sex offender recidivism studies demonstrate a positive correlation between treatment and decreased recidivism.[1]
The most accurate and useful assessments of risk come from empirically based, scientifically validated tools called actuarials. Participants will be familiarized with the standard assessment tools used for sex offender risk assessment. The tools utilized include: Polygraph, Penile plethysmography, Actuarials, Clarke Sex History Questionnaire for Males, Abel, and Hare Psychopathy Scale.
In the second portion of the workshop, clinical cases will be presented and the audience will participate in a risk assessment evaluation.
Duration: 75 minutes
