Sex Offenders and the Law

Sex offender law is one of the most controversial areas of law in the legal system. By tracing the history of sex offender legislature, the audience will become familiar with the constitutional challenges imposed by sex offender law. The US Supreme Court landmark cases in sex offender law will be discussed.

The evolution of community protection acts (community notification) and the right to civilly commit offenders will be reviewed. The workshop will conclude with a discussion of the specific sex offender statutes in Massachusetts.
