Female Sex Offenders: Unusual Suspects
Do female sex offenders exist? Female sex offenders are a poorly studied group of offenders. The public perception and societal depiction of females as victims of sexual abuse rather than perpetrators has not been challenged. As a result there are few studies that evaluate females as sex offenders. In recent media attention, female teachers have been charged with sexual contact with minors. How do we understand this behavior?
In this workshop, a typology of female sex offenders will be discussed. The audience will become familiar with the factors which contribute to female sex offending. The workshop will conclude with case examples of female sex offenders.
